Pochichi: As Twirly as I Wanna Be

Despite his G1 Cousin (Ginjirochi)'s popularity, Pochichi often gets the complaint that he is "cute, but boring". In some Japanese G2 Tamagotchi (Clear Yellow, Navy Blue, Red, etc), the Pochi is replaced by Nyatchi, a (normally) green cat.

Adult-chi Type 2, Generation 2: The Pochichi

The Pochichi is less popular than his cousin, as I have noted before. I strongly suspect this is due to disappointment; fairly early on, there were rumours that he could turn into the secret character, Nyachi ("meow"+chi) the cat.

Pochi, incidentally, is a stereotypical Doggy name, kinda like "Fido" or "Bowser". Its roots lie in an old Japanese diminuitive word meaning "little".

The TD notes that Pochichi was brought up among Earth dogs, and as a result, believes himself to be a dog. "He gets certain twitchy 'urges' when he sees telephone poles [Japanese equivalent of old "fire hydrant joke"] and is sensitive to the sounds of sirens, but he hates shaking hands." He also supposedly likes going for drives. He has a funny quirk in his speech patterns; he adds the word "wan" (onomatopoeic word, similar to English "woof") to the end of every sentence.

A TamaKitty! The Nyachi A TamaKitty!

Nyachi is noted on the Japanese Bandai Site as "having the ability to change its colour depending on its mood. Great friends with mice, and likes to knit sweaters for the little rodents."

Aphrodite has this to say about Nyatchi:

Actually, the Nyatchi is not a replacment charachter for the Pochichi, but a secret charachter. I have gotten it before on a Japanese Gen2 tam. Basically, it's just like taking care of a Pochichi, only that it's a cat. (when it poops, it looks constapated.) I personally think that it's ugly (it looks like an obese bunny with cat ears and a rounded "w" for a mouth.)

... The charachter that turned into the Nyatchi was the Pochichi. I think I know the reason why people had the notion that the Pochichi would turn into the Nyatchi. (US P2). I have seen many a website with the information that the US version had the Nyatchi as a secret charachter, although it was really the Japanese version.

I also thought that there were no other secret charachters in the Japanese version, but I noticed that they never (well almost never) put the most...realistic information on there pages. I was extremely aggravated when I recieved my Japanese P2 tam and read that there were no new features. It turns out that there were. It also depends on which release of P2 tam that it was, but only the Japanese version has one, either that or I am not taking care of my International tam correctly to get a Nyatchi.

When I got my Nyatchi, the Tam was 32 years old (I had aged it, and the true age was 27). It flip-flops (my rendition of the foot movement) across the screen just like the Pochichi. It only beeps about once every hour. I was so happy when I got it, but I soon got bored of only seeing it flip-flop across the screen, so I left it alone. Plus, as I said before, it's just plain ugly. Well, not ugly, but it's much too fat to be a cat.

I'm always looking for more stuff to put up here. So if you have pics, comments, stories or tips you want to contribute, e-mail me! and please note whether you want to be credited.
