Tarakotchi: It Came from the Depths of the Ocean...

I haven't gotten a Tarakotchi yet, so this page will largely depend on the input that people give me!

Adult-chi Type 5, Generation 1: Tarakochi
Tarakotchi

I think that this is the character that one tam owner in an interview called the "gangster chicken". I've also heard it referred to as a "bird with a bad toupee" (this from a former friend of mine).

Depending on what source you have, this is either listed as a bad character or an "average" character. Bandai's chart seems to have it at second-worst character, just above the Nyorochi.

The Tamagotchi Daihyakka has this to say about Tarakochi:
"A weird Adult-chi whose most prominent feature is his lips. He comes and goes as he pleases, and has a mysterious personality. Furthermore, his feet are smelly. The expression of happiness on his face after winning a game is very cute!"

It appears from the illustrations and comics that he has a bit of a lisp: sometimes, he pronounces the sound "da" as "ra". Instead of "itadakimasu" ("I gratefully partake of this meal") he says "itarakimasu". This is a common speech impediment among Japanese children and teenagers, and it can also be a dialectal difference.

His name literally means "cod roe", but that's a reference to his big fat lips; in Japan, thick lips are referred to as "cod roe lips" or Tarako-kuchibiru.

I'm always looking for more stuff to put up here. So if you have pics, comments, stories or tips you want to contribute, e-mail me! and please note whether you want to be credited.
