Babichi and Kodomotchi: The Wonder Years

Depending on who you ask, these are either the cutest or most annoying stages. The Babichi stage includes both Babichi and Maruchi. The Kodomotchi ("Child") stage, also known as the teenager stage, includes the Kuchitamachi and Tamachi.

Babichi Stage 1: Babichi

This is the stage immediately after the egg hatches. The so-called First Generation of Tamagotchi has a black little ball called "babichi". This character is often used in knock-off or rip-offs of Tamagotchi.
This is when the tam is at it's neediest; constantly calling for food and games, getting sick easily, and so on. Thankfully, it only lasts about an hour and 45 minutes. All babychi weigh 5 units; there is no weight gain or loss. Consequently, you can feed it as many candies as you like with a minimum of guilt. After a brief nap, it will wake up 1 years old, and will remain a babichi for a little while longer before transforming.

According to the Tamagotchi Daihyakka (TD), the babichi is "a pure-hearted, innocent baby. Since it's a newborn, it's completely selfish/dependent on you. It's constantly eating and pooping, and gets ill quite easily. Babies are very hard to take care of".

Babichi Stage 2: Maruchi

About 20 minutes after waking up from it's nap, the babichis transform into their toddler forms, maruchi ("round/circle"), which has a minimum weight of 10 units. They stay in this stage for two to three days. The good news is, they actually smile at you now instead of opening their little oblong mouths like the babies do. The bad news is, they have teeth, with which they snarl and snap. They also start being selfish at this stage; that is, they call you even if (or especially when) all their meters are full. However, once in this form they can safely be left for about 3 hours before they call you needing attention (my belated thanks to Book-kun of Clan Liam, who was my guinea pig for most of my "how long can they wait before needing attention" experiments).

The TD refers to this stage as "a little bigger, but still [acts like] a baby. Still utterly dependant on you, and starts being selfish too. The cutest stage!?"

Kodomotchi Type 1: Kuchitamachi

This is often known as the "bad" or "sickly" teenager. This just means that Kuchitamachi is low-energy, and doesn't trot around like the tamachi and tongaritchi. Kuchitamachi don't, for whatever reason, get futons to sleep in. Quite sad, really.

The TD notes that Kuchitamachi may look like he's pouting all the time, but he's actually a warm-hearted, easy-going character. His main characteristic is that he has a beak... of course, so does the Generation 2 Hashitamachi.

Kodomotchi Type 2: Tamachi

This is often called the "healthy" teenager. Tamachi's minimum weight is 20 units, and it jogs in place with little peg legs. When happy, the tamachi's legs go all frilly; quite adorable, IMO. This is also the first stage in which tams sleep in their own little futons.

The TD notes that Tamachi ("ball") is "mischievious and active. Like all children, curious about everything, and wants to know absolutely everything. A young whipper-snapper and a chatterbox to boot."

I'm always looking for more stuff to put up here. So if you have pics, comments, stories or tips you want to contribute, e-mail me! and please note whether you want to be credited.
