Children's Day!
Today is Children's Day (formerly known as Boy's Day) in Japan!
As a child, I was always puzzled by those Family Circus cartoons where someone complains that there's a Mother's Day and a Father's Day, but no Children's Day. And then some jolly old adult would say "Bue sweetie, every day's Children's Day!" And everyone would have a good laugh.
Bum to that. As far as I'm concerned, Children's Day is the 5th day of the 5th month. Traditionally, colourful wind-sock like banners painted to look like carp (koinobori) are flown on this day.
In my household, we did... nothing. I was supposed to go see Sliding Doors, a fantasy-romance dealing with the idea of alternate realities, with someone I knew, but my Mom was grumbling about it, and something came up on my friend's end, so we had to post-pone it a day. Grrrr. It was Hot Ticket Tuesday (all movies for $5), too...
So instead, I helped carry some groceries home, then goofed around on the internet, forgetting utterly about all the translation stuff and fan-fictions and video-watching I'd promised people I would do.
On the plus side, I received a new award! It'll be up on my page, as soon as I find enough time and presence of mind to start fiddling around... among other things, I have some URLs to add to my links section.
Oh, and Becca remains in good health.
