Gargoyles: The Animated Series

One of my continuing obsessions, Gargoyles is an excellent animated series by Buena Vista with beautiful animation, wonderful storytelling, convincing character development and, for some reason, a hefty portion of the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Background

Note to Gargoyles fans: I'm (mostly) kidding! Basically, the series is about the hard-working lads and lasses of the Illuminati Society, and their continuing plot to take over the world. There is a clever little subplot about the adventures of a clan of Scottish Gargoyles in New York City who are stone statues by day, and are protectors of the innocent by night; however, as far as I'm concerned the main focus is David Xanatos (voice by Jonathan Frakes), a handsome young whipper-snapper Illuminatus out to conquer/buy the world.

Another focal point is Mistress Demona (Marina Sirtis), a literally misanthropic expatriate Scottish Gargoyle. As her clan was betrayed and cursed by humans, she now hates them and desires to cleanse the world of them (humans, not Scottish Gargoyles), thus making the planet not only a safer place for gargoyles, but the entire plant and animal kingdoms as well. (C'mon guys, take a look around... you've gotta admit that humans were responsible for more than a little bit of that there environmental degradation, dontcha?)

Hudson, mentor of Goliath and general couch potato (Ed Asner)

Brooklyn, Second of the Clan/up-and-coming hotshot (Jeff Bennett)

Broadway, requisite chunky guy with a heart of gold (Bill Faggerbakke)

Bronx, requisite cute dog-goyle (Frank Welker)

Angela, daughter of Goliath, mate of Broadway, emissary from Clan Avalon (Brigitte Bako)

Eliza Maza, resident kick-ass human babe (Salli Richardson)

and last but certainly not least, the lovely, diminutive

LEXINGTON!!! (genius and wunderkind, possible future world conqueror {see picture above}, and general sweetie-pie, voiced by Thom Adcox Hernandez)
